Methodology & Data Transparency

Clear assumptions are especially important when a calculator is used for investing-related scenarios.

User-entered market assumptions

The tools allow you to enter the share price, dividend per share, dividend growth, price growth or annual return used in a scenario. This prevents the calculator from pretending that an estimate is automatically a live market value.

Dividend frequency

The SCHD-focused projection tools model dividend payments on a quarterly schedule. Monthly contributions are modeled separately as monthly investment activity. Monthly contribution does not mean the fund pays dividends monthly.

Fractional shares

The projection models allow fractional shares so that dividend reinvestment and contribution calculations can be represented continuously rather than forcing whole-share purchases.

Taxes

Where a tax field is available, the calculator applies the entered percentage to the modeled dividend amount. It does not determine your actual tax liability or account for every possible tax rule.

Inflation

These calculators currently show nominal projections. Inflation is not automatically deducted from the displayed future dollar amounts.

No guaranteed return

Dividend growth, share-price growth and annual returns are assumptions, not promises. Actual market prices, distributions, taxes and total returns can be materially different.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about using the calculators.

Are the calculator results live market data?
No. The calculator is designed around transparent, user-entered assumptions. Unless a specific future version identifies a verified live data source, the displayed inputs should not be treated as live market quotes or current dividend declarations.
Are the projected returns guaranteed?
No. The results are mathematical projections based on the assumptions entered by the user. They are not predictions or guarantees of future investment performance.
Does monthly contribution mean SCHD pays monthly dividends?
No. Monthly contribution refers to how frequently money is added to the modeled investment. The SCHD-focused projection tools use a quarterly dividend schedule.
What does DRIP mean?
DRIP means Dividend Reinvestment Plan. In the calculator, when DRIP is enabled, the modeled after-tax dividend amount is used to purchase additional fractional shares at the modeled share price.
Can I change the assumptions?
Yes. You should change the example assumptions to match the scenario you want to study. The more realistic your inputs are, the more useful the scenario analysis will be.
Is this financial advice?
No. These calculators are educational and mathematical planning tools. They do not provide personalized financial, investment, tax or legal advice.

General Disclaimer

SCHD Calculators provides educational calculation tools for exploring hypothetical investment and dividend scenarios. Calculator outputs are estimates generated from user-entered assumptions and simplified mathematical models. They should not be interpreted as a promise, forecast, recommendation or guarantee of future performance.

Actual dividends, share prices, taxes, fees, investment returns and market conditions may differ significantly from the assumptions used. Always verify important financial information using appropriate authoritative sources and consider consulting a qualified financial or tax professional for advice specific to your circumstances.

Methodology

The model starts with the initial investment divided by the starting share price. Monthly contributions are added at the beginning of each modeled month and purchase additional modeled shares. Dividends are calculated quarterly. When DRIP is enabled, the after-tax dividend is reinvested into additional fractional shares.

Shares Purchased = Investment ÷ Modeled Share Price

Dividend model

The annual dividend per share increases according to the dividend growth assumption. Quarterly dividend payments are modeled as one fourth of the annual dividend per share multiplied by shares held at the modeled payment time.

Quarterly Dividend = Shares × Annual DPS ÷ 4

Important assumptions

  • Monthly contributions are modeled at the beginning of each month.
  • Dividends are modeled quarterly.
  • Fractional shares are allowed.
  • Taxes are applied using the entered percentage.
  • Inflation is not modeled.
  • Fees and slippage are not modeled.
  • Growth assumptions remain constant during the scenario.

Data transparency

This calculator does not automatically label example assumptions as current market facts. Share price, dividend and growth inputs should be checked by the user against a suitable authoritative source when current information is required.

DRIP limitations

Real-world dividend reinvestment can differ because of brokerage rules, execution prices, taxes, fees, withholding and timing. This calculator is intentionally a simplified scenario model.

DRIP Calculator FAQ

What happens when DRIP is off?
Dividends are treated as cash rather than being used to purchase additional shares.

Does the calculator use whole shares?
No. Fractional shares are supported in the model.

Does this predict actual future SCHD performance?
No. It calculates a hypothetical scenario from your assumptions.

What this tool answers

This calculator focuses on income rather than total portfolio value. It estimates the annual dividend generated by the shares represented by your investment and shows monthly and quarterly equivalents.

Core formula

Annual Dividend Income = Shares × Annual Dividend / Share

Estimated shares are calculated from the investment amount divided by the entered share price.

Yield vs Yield on Cost

Current yield compares the annual dividend with the modeled current share price. Yield on cost compares the annual dividend with the original investment amount. They answer different questions.

Frequency & timing

The annual result is divided by 12 for a monthly equivalent and by 4 for a quarterly equivalent. These are mathematical equivalents and should not be interpreted as a statement that dividends are actually paid monthly.

Important assumptions

  • Share count remains constant.
  • Dividend growth is applied annually.
  • No additional purchases are modeled.
  • Inflation is not modeled.
  • Taxes use the entered percentage.
  • Fees and brokerage costs are excluded.

Data transparency

The tool does not claim that its example dividend or share price is the current market value. Replace the example inputs with verified figures when you want to study a current scenario.

Dividend Income Calculator FAQ

Can I use this to estimate monthly income?
Yes. The monthly figure is an annual-income equivalent divided by 12.

Does future income mean guaranteed income?
No. It is based entirely on the dividend-growth assumption you enter.

Does this include capital gains?
No. This tool focuses on dividend income.

SCHD Investment Growth Calculator

Explore how an initial amount and recurring contributions could compound under a user-entered annual return assumption.

What this tool does

This calculator isolates the mathematics of compounding. It lets you test how time, contributions and an annual return assumption interact. It should not be interpreted as a forecast of SCHD or any other fund.

Compounding method

The annual return is converted into an equivalent monthly rate and the model applies that rate monthly. Monthly contributions are added at the beginning of each modeled month before that month’s growth.

Monthly Rate = (1 + Annual Return)^(1/12) − 1

What is included

  • Initial investment
  • Monthly contributions
  • Monthly compounding
  • Investment period
  • User-entered annual return

What is not included

  • Taxes
  • Inflation
  • Brokerage fees
  • Market volatility
  • Changing annual returns
  • Dividend-specific modeling

Data transparency

The annual return is an assumption entered by the user. The calculator does not represent that percentage as a current or guaranteed SCHD return.

Best use

Use this tool for scenario comparison: for example, compare the mathematical outcome of different contribution amounts, time periods or hypothetical return assumptions.

Investment Growth Calculator FAQ

Is the return guaranteed?
No. It is a user-entered scenario assumption.

Does this model SCHD dividends?
No. Use the SCHD DRIP or Dividend Income calculator for dividend-focused scenarios.

Why is the result different if I change the contribution?
Because recurring contributions increase the amount of capital that can compound over time.

SCHD Yield on Cost Calculator

Calculate current and future dividend income relative to your original investment cost under a user-entered dividend-growth assumption.

Yield on Cost Dashboard

Enter the original investment basis and the dividend assumptions you want to test.

Fractional shares are supported.
Current YOC 0%
Annual Dividend Income $0
Monthly Equivalent $0
Quarterly Equivalent $0
Current Market Value $0
Current Yield 0%
Future Annual Income $0
Future YOC 0%
End of Year Dividend / Share Annual Income Monthly Equivalent YOC

What is Yield on Cost?

Yield on cost compares the annual dividend generated by an investment with the original amount invested. It is different from current yield because current yield uses the current or modeled market price.

YOC formula

YOC = Annual Dividend Income ÷ Original Investment × 100

Future YOC

Future YOC in this model increases when the annual dividend per share increases while the original investment basis remains unchanged. The displayed future result represents the end of the selected projection period.

Future DPS = Starting DPS × (1 + Growth Rate)^Years

Important assumptions

  • Share count remains constant.
  • Original investment remains the cost basis.
  • Dividend growth is applied annually.
  • No new contributions are included.
  • Taxes and fees are not included.
  • Inflation is not modeled.

Data transparency

The share price and dividend figures are inputs. The calculator does not claim they are current unless a future version explicitly connects to and identifies a verified data source.

Important limitation

A higher YOC does not automatically mean a better investment. It is one income-related measurement and does not by itself measure total return, risk, valuation or future market performance.

Yield on Cost Calculator FAQ

Is YOC the same as current yield?
No. YOC uses the original investment cost, while current yield uses the current or modeled share price.

Can YOC increase without the share price increasing?
Yes. In this model, YOC can increase when the dividend per share grows while the original cost basis remains unchanged.

Does a higher YOC guarantee higher total returns?
No. YOC focuses on dividend income relative to cost and does not measure the complete investment outcome.
