How the SCHD Dividend Snowball Works
A dividend snowball occurs when dividends are reinvested into additional shares. Those additional shares
can then generate additional dividends in future periods.
Step 1 — Start with an investment
Your initial investment is divided by the starting SCHD share price to determine the initial number of shares.
Fractional shares are supported by this calculator.
Step 2 — Receive dividends
The calculator applies the selected dividend frequency to the modeled annual dividend per share.
Step 3 — Reinvest dividends
When DRIP is ON, each dividend payment is divided by the applicable share price and converted into fractional shares.
Step 4 — New shares generate more dividends
The new shares participate in subsequent dividend payments, creating the compounding effect represented by the snowball.
Step 5 — Add recurring investments
Additional investments can be modeled monthly, quarterly, or annually and are converted into additional shares.
How This Calculator Works
The projection uses a simplified deterministic model. Share price and dividend-per-share assumptions
grow at the rates entered above. Contributions purchase fractional shares at the modeled price.
Dividends are paid at the selected frequency.
Important: This is a scenario calculator, not a prediction of future SCHD performance.
Real-world returns can differ substantially because of market prices, dividend changes, taxes, fees,
timing, tracking differences and other factors.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an SCHD Snowball Calculator?
It is a projection tool that estimates how an SCHD investment could grow when dividends,
recurring contributions, dividend growth and share-price growth are modeled over time.
What does DRIP mean?
DRIP means Dividend Reinvestment Plan. In this calculator, DRIP ON means dividend cash is
reinvested into additional fractional shares.
Does this calculator guarantee future returns?
No. The results are mathematical projections based on the assumptions entered by the user.
Actual market and dividend results can be different.
Can I model monthly investments?
Yes. Set Additional Investment to your desired recurring amount and select Monthly.
Why is Yield on Cost different from current yield?
Yield on cost compares the modeled annual dividend income with the total amount contributed.
Current yield instead relates the dividend to the current share price.
